Dhon Fideles, 46-year-old charge nurse at the King Fahd University Hospital (KFUH) in Al-Khobar for the last 15 years, is one Filipino who has been lucky in his job in Saudi Arabia.

“I’m happy over the blessings accorded me and my family. I have good Saudi bosses at the hospital. I’m also able to help others,” he said.

For his and his family’s blessings, he does not forget to thank God.

Dr. Resurreccion O. Ramos, general practitioner at the Dammam Private Medical Complex, attested to Dhon’s being a good leader.

“As Infinity 8 Sunergos (Working Together) president, Dhon Fideles goes the extra mile to help compatriots in need,” he said.

When Dhon arrived in the Kingdom in the early 2000s, he joined Newstart, a civic-oriented group founded by Pelagio “Jun” Bonotan, who had gone home after reaching the retirement age in accordance with the Kingdom’s Saudization program.

“Newstart  was organized when I first arrived, composed mostly of medical practitioners,” Dhon said.

The group conducted regular missions to render  service in camps and accommodations of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWS).

The group also distributed free water at an event at the Bahay Kalinga (BK) with members spending their own money for the humanitarian activity.

The group will be reorganized this year with the arrival of officers and members who were on vacation but could not come back after the pandemic started.

The members included OFWs from other groups like Bantay at Kasangga, Infinity 8 Sunergos (I-8) and AKSDAC (Alkhobar Seventh Day Adventist Community).

Moreover, with Bantay at Kasangga , of which he was vice president, he and co-members conducted several clean-up activities along the coasts of Al-Khobar, Dammam and Dhahran, particularly Half Moon Beach, Five Fingers and Murjen Park, among others, after securing the necessary permits from concerned municipalities.

They collected wastes along the seashore or in shallow water off the seashore that they put in plastic bags.

As a token of gratitude for the initiative, Eastern Province Governor Prince Naïf bin Saud bin Abdulaziz gifted each of the six organizers with boxes that contained five gold coins. One who was unable to attend received SR 6,000 (almost P86,000) cash in an envelope.

The organizers also received certificates of recognition.

Prince Naïf bin Saud saw the group’s voluntary work to keep the environment clean from pictures uploaded on the internet by an OFW’s dependent.

Earlier, the group was also awarded power banks and certificates of appreciation by the municipal mayors of Dammam, Al-Khobar and Dhahran in ceremonies in an auditorium.

When Dhon, Dr. Ramos and other officials left Bantay at Kasangga four years ago, they formed Infinity 8 Sunergos to pursue their activities while still with Bantay at Kasangga.

They rendered humanitarian services to compatriots in need and helped the Embassy on Wheels (EOW), a project of the Philippine mission under Ambassador Adnan V. Alonto.

“We set up an I-8 health corner when the EOW rendered consular services,” Dhon said.

He added,”We partnered with the EOW in providing mineral water, free medical check up and free photo copying.”

Infinity 8 also collaborated with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in giving food assistance to distressed OFWs.

“It beggars description the joy that helping others gives,” Dhon said in an  article published by Radio Veritas Asia through Professor Santosh Digal of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines College of Communication (PUP COC).

Dhon is married to the former Rilinda Murcia of Surigao City. They have four children— three daughters and a son.

Dhon took up Nursing at the Mountain View College in Bukidnon and got a Juris Doctor degree from the San Sebastián College of Law in Surigao City.
