Alvin Lee, Master Photographer

Alvin Lee’s interest in photography started at 12 while studying at Xavier School. He pursued photography in college at Dela Salle University, joining a camera club with the benefits of free darkroom use.

Photography challenged him. He invested in photographic equipment like Hasselblad macro lens and Leica, 28mm and 50 mm. And printed photographs using gelatin paper.

He did not have formal photography training, but someone was always guiding him. For instance, he learned darkroom techniques and printed each black-and-white picture with the guidance of a Studio 58 darkroom expert.

He said photographers Eugene Smith and Edward Weston highly influenced his works.

Now 67 and a retired businessman, Alvin’s passion for the camera remains strong, with human interest, still life, seascape, and landscape as favorite subjects.

Catch the master photographer’s exhibit at Crucible, 4th Floor, SM Megamall Building A until November 18. Artworks are priced at P35k for 20×24, P28k for 16×20, and 18k for 11 X14.
