39,000 certified courses available for digital upskilling

As the country moves determinedly towards digitization of most, if not all, aspects of life, both public and private, new job opportunities are opening, particularly in the information technology (IT).

But while many schools and vocational/technical institutions offer relevant courses, they cannot always meet the surging demand for new or upgraded skills. Fortunately, private companies are stepping into the breach and helping provide workers with the right training for emerging job vacancies.

One such private firm is @Globe. The telecommunications company has partnered with @Google Philippines to provide 39,000 scholarships on advanced certificate courses to give low-income students and jobseekers job-ready IT skills.

Under the joint project, Globe and some government stakeholders will invite qualified applicants for the Google Career Certificates program, which offers a suite of flexible online training courses for three to six months.

Available at Coursera.org, the program is open to everyone 18 years old and above. Requiring no previous degree or experience, applicants can choose from four certificate options: IT Support, UX Design, Data Analytics and Project Management.

“With the unemployment rate at 5.2 percent and rapidly growing job postings in technology, Google hopes to address the digital sills gap and improve the lives of thousands of Filipinos for themselves and their families by providing free Google Career Certificates,” says @Bernadette Nacario, country director, Google Philippines.

@Yoly Crisanto, Globe group chief sustainability and corporate  communications officer, says,  bringing Coursera to more Filipinos, “is a clear example of how we can uplift our young customers with world-class IT-based training to strengthen their digital skills”.

Globe will make the new service accessible to its Globe Prepaid and TM customers, partner schools and local government units.

Globe also provides free access to key learning platforms of the Department of Education, Commission on Higher Education, as well as the Globe eLibrary, a free learning platform with Kindergarten to Grade 12 (K to 12) content, to subscribers.

EdVenture, one of the Group’s portfolio companies under 917Ventures, provides virtual one-on-one and personalized tutorials for students.

KodeGo, a portfolio company of Globe’s wholly-owned venture builder 917Ventures, is an enroll-now, pay-upon-hiring learning boot camp. It offers a 12-week intensive training program on coding and programming with a highly-effective placement program for graduates.
